Rainy Season (Late May to Early July)

Late May to early July is Japan’s rainy season. Humidity can be high, and the weather often feels hot and sticky even on cloudy days.

Rainy and sunny days may alternate every few days during this period. A light umbrella and breathable clothing are recommended.

However, rainy days can also create beautiful reflections around Miyajima, shrines, and the Seto Inland Sea, giving the area a calm atmosphere.

Summer (July to September)

After the rainy season ends, Hiroshima becomes very hot and humid.

Visiting Miyajima during the middle of the day is not recommended in summer. Early mornings and evenings are much more comfortable.

Mt. Misen Tip

Mt. Misen can feel especially hot because there is little shade along some areas of the trails and viewpoints.

The weather usually becomes cooler and more comfortable from late September.

Autumn & Fall Colors (November)

November is the beginning of the autumn foliage season. Maple trees around Miyajima and Hiroshima become especially beautiful during this time.

Miyajima becomes very crowded from early morning during the peak foliage season, so visiting early or later in the evening is recommended.

Evening Light-ups

Nighttime illuminations are also held in some seasons, creating a beautiful atmosphere after sunset.

Winter (Late December to March)

From late December to March, Hiroshima and Miyajima are generally less crowded.

Some days can feel quite cold, especially near the sea, but warm sunny days during winter can feel very peaceful and comfortable.

Quiet Season

Winter can be one of the best seasons for visitors who prefer a calm atmosphere and fewer crowds.
